SEED producer SEEDCO has unveiled its USD13m artificial seed maize dryer at a ceremony officiated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa said the investment by Seedco was commendable and urged farmers and corporates to embrace technologies as they increase efficiencies and production.
The President also commended SEEDCO’s strong research thrust which has seen it become one of Africa’s leading seed breeders.
“As we gear towards a prosperous, diverse, sustainable and competitive agriculture, this maize seed conditioning plant will contribute towards quick turnaround production and productivity, especially in the seed sub sector. The modern and multi purpose Plant reduces drying time for seed maize, enables early harvesting and payment to growers as well as grower traceability. It also opens up land for double cropping, thereby ensuring increased crop range for our farmers.
Furthermore, the plant will also go a long way in curbing seed post maturity loses, enhancing seed viability and advancing processed seed market readiness. Gone are the days when seed was only available towards the commencement of a cropping season”
Mashonaland West provincial Minister Mary Mliswa, said the investment by SEEDCO will further enhance the developmental trajectory of the province.

SeedCo is not only into seed maize production, but also does certified seed for crops suchas barley, soyabean, wheat; horticultural products and our traditional crops like sorghum.
